Description:

  • Combined head and body length 200-270mm
  • Tail length 150-200mm
  • Average weight: 250-500g (max 700g)
  • Small ears, blunt nose, heavy body
  • Brown/black with lighter undersides

Habits and behaviour:
  • Will normally nest and burrow close to food source (embankments, rubbish tips, hedgerows, tall undergrowth)
  • Will climb, jump, burrow or swim
  • Will live in urban and rural areas
  • Access through drainage/sewer pipes, down pipes, holes in walls, gaps under doors, etc. roof spaces, ducts, pipes, beams, cables
  • Requires access to water
  • Food storing or “caching” is common
  • Neophobic – High level of caution to new objects/surroundings

Signs of Infestation:
  • Holes/gnawing
  • Droppings
  • Smear marks
  • Unpleasant smells
  • Following regular routes (runs)
  • Urine Pillars
